MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2018

Monkey's Wandering Wireless Show returns tomorrow tonight on Fusion.

Following the previous Rhythm & Soul Revue special, this one returns to the usual format of an hour of great music plucked from various genres and decades - from the 1950s to an exclusive track so new the mixing desk is still warm.

There's been some tinkering behind the scenes at Fusion so the web address is slightly different but hit the link below in time for an 8.30pm start. If you've previously logged into the chatroom your old password remains the same.

Onwards comrades.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 17 JUNE 2018 at 9.00PM

After one of its infamous breaks, Fusion returned to the airwaves last Sunday for its weekly slot on Mixlr Internet Radio with a tremendous Funk-Up-Your-Soul show hosted by Paul Orwell. If you missed it, I urge you to catch-up pronto on the Fusion Showreel

This weekend, Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show is back for the first time since January. In keeping with its title it’ll be crammed with old stuff, new stuff, dancers, smoochers, nutty instrumentals, rarities, classics and heaven knows what, spanning approximately 60 years in 60 minutes. It would be mighty fine if you can tune in.

If you want to log into the chatroom and say hello during the show, it takes seconds to sign up, that’ll be great but if you wanna just listen that’s equally cool.

UPDATE: NOW AVAILABLE TO CATCH-UP HERE:

If you've missed previous shows, or want to listen again, here are a few to enjoy.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2017

Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show returns to Fusion for an hour this Sunday and, as you can see above, my team are working hard to find as many gems to squeeze into the show as possible - under strict instructions for nothing the wrong side of three minutes.

You should know the score by now: an hour of brilliant music – anchored in the 60s but drifting into other decades – with me occasionally interrupting to say what you’re listening to. That’s about it. Nothing too complicated. If you can listen live then that’s greatly appreciated, if you want to join in the chat even better, but if not convenient then the show will be available to catch-up whenever convenient.

If you’ve never listened before, give it a go. If you have, then I trust you'll come back...

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 16 JULY 2017

The Fusion DJ roulette has landed on my number so I’ll be back in the chair again this Sunday to host Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show.

I’ve said it before but that one-hour slot every Sunday is one the highlights of the week no matter who’s entrusted to pick the records; there’s been a run of particularly brilliant shows in recent weeks. There’s always top-notch music and if you can listen live and join in the chat throughout the show it adds to the little Fusion family community vibe.

As usual the Wireless Show will be 60s-based but not tied to the decade, feature some classics, some semi-obscurities, some surprises maybe, and tracks will inevitably be followed by me saying how great they are or, to mix it up, saying they are great they are before playing them. I'm versatile like that.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2017

Hold tight comrades, Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show returns for an hour this Sunday on Fusion.

If you’ve not listened before it’s simply me playing records and intermittently interrupting them to provide information and half-truths. If you’ve never listening before, give it a go – Fusion only broadcasts for one hour a week and whoever is in the chair makes it an unmissable part of the weekend – and if you have, don’t let that put you off, I’m hopefully slowly getting the hang of this broadcasting lark. The music will cover a few bases but if you’re a reader of Monkey Picks you’ll dig it.

You can join up to Mixlr.com to chat and comment throughout the show, or just sit back and tune in. Either way, hope to catch you there, it'll be fun. Honest. The station crackles into life at 8.30pm prompt.

Now available to catch-up on the Fusion Showreel: Monkey's Wandering Wireless Show.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2016

Fusion only broadcasts for one hour every week but that hour is one of the highlights of the week. Every Sunday a motley crew of music loving freaks hang out, play records, drink and have some fun. Listeners either submit a playlist for head lunatic Mick to deliver or have a stab at presenting themselves.

This week I’m honoured to been entrusted to fill the hot seat in Fusion’s rickety old studio for the latest instalment of Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show. There’ll be roughly 60 minutes of tunes spanning the 60 years between 1956 and 2016: soul, R&B, beat, things with guitars, songs ya know and some you might not, with the odd surprise thrown in here and there.

If you sign up to hosting site Mixlr you’ll be able to join in the chat with the Fusion family (they don’t bite, properly house-trained) as the show goes on, or simply hit the link below in time for 8.30pm and listen in. Bring some booze and enjoy.

THE HALLOWEEN SHOW on FUSION - SUNDAY 30 OCTOBER 2016

There will be some frankly terrifying noises emanating from the wireless this Sunday as three of Fusion’s most hideous voices join together to present the shockingly imaginatively titled Halloween Show.

Mildew Mick, Degenerate Dr Gonzo and I shall be blowing the cobwebs off some creepy and crawly musical chestnuts for your hairy ears. If you listened to our ‘Party 7’ show last year, you’ll kind of know what to expect (the worst…): tracks leaning a bit more towards the classics and a spot of light tomfoolery. It’ll be fun, honest, and I promise there’ll be no Monster Mash.

As always, Fusion cranks into action at 8.30pm on the dot for an hour. Tune in in plenty of time my ghoulish comrades.

UPDATE: In case ya missed it here's the link to catch-up mixlr.com/fusion-on-air/showreel/the-halloween-show/ Show about 1hr 20mins as we got a bit carried away so overrun the usual hour slot!

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2016

UPDATE: To catch up with this show, and to hear Paul Orwell's exclusive and incredible track recorded especially for the show, go here: MWWS on FUSION.

“When are you next doing your radio show?” you’ve both asked. Thanks Mum, thanks Dad. Well, the wait is nearly over as this Sunday, Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show returns to the airwaves of the hippest station on the dial, Fusion.

If you’ve listened before don’t let that put you off and if you’ve not done so it’s one hour of songs you know and songs you might not all thrown into a big aural pot of monkey magic. Spanning about 60 years and they’ll all be great of course.

I’m still finalizing the playlist but fans and admirers of Paul Orwell should definitely tune in…

Ensure you click on mixlr.com/fusion-on-air for an 8.30pm sharp start. If you want to join Mixlr beforehand to join the chat/abuse with the Fusion family as the show goes on help yourself but not essential to listen. See ya there comrades.

Fusion runs every Sunday night 8.30-9.30pm with different listeners selecting a playlist. An essential, and great fun, end to the weekend.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 8 MAY 2016

Weekends are neatly topped and tailed with two radio programmes. Saturday begins with Brian Matthew’s Sounds of the 60s on Radio 2 and Sunday concludes in the company of small-but-perfectly-formed internet station Fusion.

It’s always a cracking hour on Fusion with a mix of listeners sending in their playlists for head honcho Mick Collins to present, or a few regular Brian Matthew wannabes chancing their arm with their own shows. One of which, I’m very honoured to say, is Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show which returns this Sunday.

There’ll be music stretching from the mid-50s to the current day. Quite what I haven’t decided yet but, trust me, if you even occasionally check Monkey Picks it’ll be up your alley. Grab a few beers, put thoughts of Monday morning to one side, and tune in. Starts 8.30pm, on the knocker. Don't miss it.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 27 MARCH 2016

Not only is Easter Sunday the day we reflect on baby Jesus being reborn in a chocolate egg delivered by fluffy yellow chicks but it’s also when Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show returns to the airwaves.

Yes indeed, for on Sunday there’ll be maximum singing and minimal sermonizing as I attempt to squeeze as many spirit lifting songs as possible into an hour’s broadcast on the hippest station on the dial, Fusion.

Sundays on Fusion is always the place to be so thanks to them for trusting me to lead the flock this week. There’ll be things you know and maybe one or two you don’t but it’ll all - R&B, soul, garage punk and more - be great.

Click on the link below in time for a prompt 8.30pm start. If you wanna join up on Mixlr beforehand you’ll be able to chat with the congregation, otherwise just tune in. See ya there.

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 31 JANUARY, 8.30PM

Stand by yer modern-day internet wireless contraptions, Monkey's Wandering Wireless Show returns - finally - to the airwaves on Sunday 31 January on the hippest station on the dial, Fusion.

It'll be business as usual - although we've upgraded the mic from the early shows, I can't vouch that the content of my links will be any better - with an hour of tunes spanning the decades and genres but with one thing in common: they're all gonna be great records.

Come and join us and see if you agree. Click on the link below in time for a 8.30pm blast-off. And if you wanna join in the chat with the Fusion regular listeners you can register at any time.

See ya there comrades. This'll be the show planned for 17 January which, due to circumstances beyond our control (no pigging signal from Fusion's secret offshore location), had to be postponed (twice). Apologies for the messing about, it'll be worth the wait...

PARTY SEVEN on FUSION - SUNDAY 20 DECEMBER

Roll out the barrel, this Sunday three regular Fusion radio shows will attempt to present a joint party: Party 7.

Fusion head honcho, broadcasting legend and kitchen boogie enthusiast Mick Collins will open up his house; Dr Gonzo will come supplied to the back teeth with goodies freely dished out from his magical medicine bag; and I’ll be doing whatever it is I do on the wireless, play records and talk gibberish. There’ll be no deep soul treasures this time, no country weepers, no Mongolian nose flute music, just each of us bringing along seven big old party tunes for a special seasonal knees-up.

Please join us for a hour from 8.30pm at the following link to hear if we manage to pull it off: http://mixlr.com/fusion-on-air/

MONKEY'S WANDERING WIRELESS SHOW - SUNDAY 7th JUNE, 8.30PM

You’ve had the John Peel show, Peter Young’s Soul Cellar, Brian Matthew’s Sounds of the Sixties and Theme Time Radio Hour with your host Bob Dylan. Now, put all thoughts of those seminal radio programmes behind you and get ready to turn that dial to Fusion-On-Air for Monkey’s Wandering Wireless Show. Yes folks, calling out around the world, I’ll be dipping a cautious hairy toe in the broadcasting game this Sunday.

Fusion is small but perfectly formed internet station which comes to life at regular intervals, notably on Sunday nights when listeners send in playlists which Mick Collins enthusiastically builds into a show, or people present their own thing like the excellent Dr Gonzo’s Medicine Bag. All of which are very Monkey Picks-friendly in content. Thanks a lot to Fusion for asking me to get involved.

I rather hastily agreed to present the show myself so apologies in advance for what’ll no doubt be a shaky and nervous debut but if you can overlook that you’ll hopefully be rewarded with a hour or so of brilliant tunes. It’ll be an aural equivalent of Monkey Picks with all the effort of tracing tracks down yourself taken out. Old favourites, forgotten gems and maybe the odd tune you’ll hear for the first time and dig. Crack open a beer, tune in, and sit back.

Show begins at 8.30pm. Go to mixlr.com/fusion-on-air/ just beforehand and it should spring into life at broadcast time. It might look like you need to log-in to Mixlr to listen but you don't.
