JUKEBOX 7'S at BIDDLES, SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER 2015

Even by the niche standards of Monkey Picks this post is targeted at a minuscule percentage of potential readers. Still, if you happen to live or are within easy reach of Clapton in East London on Saturday 10 October, then pop in to Biddle Brothers bar and join myself, Long John McNally and Miles Macleod.

We’ll be playing records of the 7 inch variety to enjoy with the tipple of your choice (we’re not paying by the way, let’s get that straight). We’ve done a few of these before and it’s a nice relaxed bar tolerant of us playing whatever the hell we fancy: from 60s hits, indie classics, funk and punk and soul, to Chas & Dave. Records until midnight and then a quieter wind-down session for anyone still standing.

JUKEBOX 7"S - SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER

I admit this is a very niche post even, by MonkeyPicks standards, but if you're within touching distance of Clapton, East London on Saturday 29th November (unlikely I know), you are cordially invited to join Long John, Miles and myself for the latest edition of Jukebox 7"s.

Biddle Brothers is a cool bar and always a good friendly atmosphere in there with us three (and Reggie the Parrot) playing records in a haphazard higgledy piggledy manner, meaning you could get anything from James Brown to the Byrds to Elastica to Ramsey Lewis to Jilted John to the Masters Apprentices.

Shake yer tail feather Reggie!

JUKEBOX 7"s PLAYLIST - FRIDAY 13th JUNE 2014

Miles and Reggie (photo Hannah Svensson Macleod)
There’s always a degree of trepidation when DJing in a venue for the first time - especially when inflicting records on a largely unsuspecting public on London’s infamous Murder Mile in Clapton – but last night’s instalment of Long John McNally’s Jukebox 7”s at Biddle Bros was a cracker. Great pop-art style bar, friendly staff and locals, and a parrot named Reggie who was obviously no fan of Lulu as he swooped down on the decks to take the needle off the record when she was on. Oh yeah, and free beer all night for the DJs: Long John, Miles Macleod and myself. Not sure the owners quite realised how many pints of Staropramen the three of us could knock back in five hours. Here, through an alcoholic haze, is what I played…
