We live in Hackney which is almost always cast in a negative light (only this week a new television series started about the drug gangs here) yet there are some decent parts and decent people. As an American I have never visited any of these sacred spots, and after reading your descriptions (and hearing those of friends who've ventured there)I can't say I'm any closer to risking my life going to any of them, as the quanit colloquial urban saying here goes: "If you ain't never been to the ghetto Don't ever come to the ghetto...".
